సుందరకాండ – 38
ఆ వానరాలు చేస్తున్న అల్లరికి దధిముఖుడి సైన్యం వస్తే, వాళ్ళని చావగొట్టి తమ వెనుక భాగాలు చూపించారు. ఆ తరువాత వచ్చిన దధిముఖుడిని కూడా చావగొట్టారు. అప్పుడాయన ఏడుస్తూ సుగ్రీవుడి దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళి జరిగిన విషయం అంతా చెప్పాడు. దధిముఖుడు సుగ్రీవుడితో వానర బాషలో ఏడుస్తూ మాట్లాడుతున్నాడు. మధ్య మధ్యలో “హనుమ” అంటున్నాడు. దధిముఖుడి మాటలు వింటున్న సుగ్రీవుడి తోక పెరుగుతోంది. (వానరాలు ఏదన్నా సంతోషకరమైన వార్త వింటే తోకలు పెంచుతారు). ఒక పక్క దధిముఖుడు ఏడుస్తుంటే సుగ్రీవుడు తోక పెంచడం గమనించిన లక్ష్మణుడు కంగారుగా “అసలు ఏమయ్యింది” అన్నాడు.
“ఏమీలేదయ్యా! దక్షిణ దిక్కుకి వెళ్ళిన వానరాలు మధువనాన్ని నాశనం చేశాయట. దక్షిణ దిక్కుకి వెళ్ళిన హనుమంతుడు తప్పకుండా సీతమ్మ దర్శనం చేసుంటాడు” అని లక్ష్మణుడితో అని, “వాళ్ళందరినీ వెంటనే ఇక్కడికి రమ్మను” అని సుగ్రీవుడు దధిముఖుడితో అన్నాడు. దధిముఖుడు ఆ వానరాలకి “సుగ్రీవుడు రమ్మంటున్నాడు” అని చెప్పగానే అందరూ ఆకాశంలోకి ఎగిరిపోయి కిష్కిందకి చేరిపోయారు. వాళ్ళందరూ రాముడి దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళి “రావణుడు సీతమ్మని లంకలో శింశుపా వృక్షం కింద ఉంచాడు. సీతమ్మ చాలా బాధ పడుతోంది. మనం తొందరగా వెళ్ళి తీసుకొచ్చెయ్యాలి” అన్నారు. అప్పుడు రాముడు “సీత నాయందు ఎలా ఉంది?” అని అడిగాడు.
అప్పటిదాకా రాముడి చుట్టూ ఉన్న వానరాలు, ఈ ప్రశ్నకి హనుమంతుడే సమాధానం చెప్పగలడు అని ఆయనకి దారిచ్చాయి. అప్పుడు హనుమంతుడు దక్షిణ దిక్కుకి నమస్కరించి “సీతమ్మ తపస్సుని పాటిస్తుంది. నీయందు పరిపూర్ణమైన ప్రేమతో ఉంది” అని, సీతమ్మ చెప్పిన ఆనవాళ్ళన్ని చెప్పి చూడామణిని ఇచ్చి “సీతమ్మ కేవలం ఒక నెల మాత్రమే ప్రాణాలని నిలబెట్టుకుంటానంది. మనం తొందరగా బయలుదేరి వెళ్ళి రావణుడిని సంహరించి, సీతమ్మని తీసుకురావాలి” అన్నాడు.
అప్పుడు రాముడు “సీత జాడ తెలిశాక నేను ఒక్క రోజు కూడా ఉండలేను” అని ఏడ్చి, సీత ఎలా ఉందని అడిగిగాడు. హనుమంతుడు సీతమ్మ యొక్క సౌశీల్యాన్ని, పాతివ్రత్యాన్ని వివరించి “నీకు సుగ్రీవుడికి కలిగిన స్నేహం చేత అమ్మ ఎంతో ప్రీతిని పొందింది. సుగ్రీవుడిని, మిగిలిన వానరములని కుశలమడిగింది. శోకమూర్తి అయిన సీతమ్మ తల్లిని నా మాటల చేత ఊరడించాను. నా మాటల చేత ఊరడింపబడిన సీతమ్మ ఇవ్వాళ శోకమును వదిలిపెట్టి తన కోసం నువ్వు శోకిస్తున్నావని మాత్రమే శోకిస్తోంది” అని చెప్పాడు.
అలా హనుమంతుడు తన వాక్ వైభవంతో సీత రాములని సంతోషపెట్టాడు.
Sundarakanda – 38
When Dadhimukha’s army came on hearing the din created by the monkeys, they beat them and showed their hind parts. Dadhimukha, who came later, was also beaten badly. Then he went to Sugreeva crying and told him everything that had happened. Dadhimukha was crying and talking to Sugreeva in monkey language. In between he was uttering “Hanuman”. Sugreeva’s tail was growing as he listened to Dadhimukha’s words. (Monkeys elongate their tails when they hear any good news). Lakshmana noticed Sugreeva elongating his tail while Dadhimukha on one side was crying, and confused, he asked “What actually happened ?”.
“Nothing! It seems the monkeys who went to the south destroyed Madhuvana. Hanuman who went to the south must definitely have seen Mother Seeta,” Sugreeva said to Lakshmana, and said to Dadhimukha, “Ask all of them to come here immediately.” When Dadhimukha said to the monkeys, “Sugreeva is calling,” everyone flew into the sky and reached Kishkindha. They all went to Rama and said, “Ravana had kept Mother Seeta under the Shimshupa tree in Lanka. Mother Seeta is suffering a lot. We must go and fetch her quickly.” Then Lord Rama asked, “How is Sita with respect to me?” He asked.
The monkeys, who were around Rama till then, said that only Hanuman could answer that question, and let Him come forward. Then Hanuman bowed to the southern direction and said, “Mother Seeta is practicing penance. She is full of love for You.” Narrating all the anecdotes told by Seeta, Hanuman gave Rama Her Choodamani (crest jewel) and said, “Mother Seeta said that she would be alive for only one more month. We must quickly start and kill Ravana and bring Mother Seeta back.”
Then Lord Rama cried, “I cannot stay a single day as I know the whereabouts of Sita now,” and asked how Sita was. Hanuman then described Mother Seeta’s piety and chastity, saying, “Mother is very fond of You for your friendship with Sugeeva. She enquired about the welfare of Sugreeva and the other monkeys. I consoled the grief-stricken Mother Seeta with my words. Due to my words, Mother Seeta was consoled, and has today left Her grief, and is sorrowing just because You are sorrowing for Her.”
Thus, Hanuman pleased both Seeta and Rama with the glory of His speech.

హనుమ చెప్పిన మాటలని విన్న రాముడు ఎంతగానో సంతోషించి “హనుమా! నువ్వు చేసిన కార్యము సామాన్యమైన కార్యము కాదు. 100 యోజనముల సముద్రాన్ని దాటి లంకా పట్టణంలోకి వెళ్ళడం అనేది మానసికంగా కూడా ఎవ్వరూ ఊహించని పని. సముద్రాన్ని దాటి రాక్షసుల చేత, రావణుడి చేత పరిరక్షింపబడుతున్న లంకా పట్టణంలో ప్రవేశించి, సీత దర్శనం చేసి, ప్రభువు చెప్పిన దానికన్నా ఎక్కువగా ఆ కార్యము నిర్వహించి, ఎటువంటి అవమానము పొందకుండా తిరిగి రావడం అనేది ఇంకా గొప్ప పని.
“సేవకులు మూడు రకాలుగా ఉంటారు. ప్రభువు చెప్పిన పనికన్నా తనలో ఉన్న సమర్ధత చేత ఎక్కువ పనిని చేసి ప్రభువు యొక్క మనస్సు గెలుచుకోగలిగిన సమర్ధత కలిగినవాడు ఉత్తమమైన సేవకుడు. ప్రభువు చెప్పిన పనిని చేసి, అంతకన్నా ఎక్కువ చెయ్యగలిగిన సామర్ధ్యం ఉన్నప్పటికీ, ప్రభువు చెప్పలేదు కనుక మనకెందుకులే అనుకునేవాళ్లు మధ్యములు. తనకి చెయ్యగలిగే సమర్ధత ఉన్నా, నేనెందుకు చెయ్యాలి అని ప్రభువు చెప్పిన పనిని చెయ్యనివాడు ఎవడు ఉంటాడో వాడు అధముడు. ఇవ్వాళ నిన్ను నీవు అత్యుత్తమమైన సేవకుడిగా నిరూపించుకున్నావు. నా క్షేమ వార్త సీతకి చెప్పి, ఆమె మనసులో ఉన్న దైన్యాన్ని, బాధని తొలగించి సుఖాన్ని పొందేటట్టుగా నువ్వు ప్రవర్తించావు. సీత జాడ తెలియక బాధపడుతున్న నాకు సీత జాడ చెప్పి సంతోషపెట్టావు. నీకు నేను ఏమీచ్చి నీ ఋణం తీర్చుకోగలను. ఇవ్వాళ నీకు ఇవ్వటానికి నా వద్ద ఎటువంటి వస్తువు లేదు. నా వద్ద ఉన్నది ఈ దేహమే. అందుకని నా దేహంతో నీ దేహాన్ని గాఢాలింగనం చేసుకుంటాను” అని, హనుమని దగ్గరికి తీసుకుని గట్టిగ కౌగలించుకున్నాడు.

Lord Rama, on hearing Hanuman’s words, was overjoyed and said, “Hanuman! What you have done is not a trivial task! Going beyond the sea of 100 Yojanas into the city of Lanka is something that no one can even imagine! Crossing the ocean, entering the Lanka city that was being guarded by the demons and Ravana, meeting Seeta, performing the task more than what the Lord had ordered, and returning without a trace of shame is a greater job!”
“Servants are of three kinds. The best servant is one who is able to do more of the work of the Lord by his own ability than the Lord has said, thus winning the mind of the Lord. One who performs the tasks entrusted to him, but in spite of having the ability to do more than that, do not do so thinking, ‘The Lord has anyway not told me to do more. So why should I take the trouble?’ are of the middle category. Whoever does not do what the Lord says in spite of having the ability, is of the most inferior type. Today, you have proved that you are the best servant. You have told Seeta the news of my well-being and have behaved in such a way as to remove the misery and pain in Her heart and made Her gain happiness. You have made me, who was grieving as I did not know the whereabouts of Seeta, happy by telling about her whereabouts. Whatever I give you, I cannot fulfil the debt I have towards you. Today, I have nothing to give you. I only have this body. So, I shall embrace your body with my body.” Saying so, He took Hanuman closer and hugged him tightly.
May Sri Hanuman’s Grace be radiating all over us forever!
